ELDEN RING

ELDEN RING is an open-world RPG created by FromSoftware. Like most games the studio makes, it is a "souls-like," meaning that players can expect a punishing experience as they battle monstrous foes in a dark fantasy setting.

ELDEN RING rewards creativity and experimentation.

With a wealth of armor, weapons, classes, and buffs to choose from, players are encouraged to try different playstyles to find what suits them best, or what best counters their enemy.

No piece of art is perfect, and ELDEN RING is certainly no exception. It reuses content, including a significant number of boss fights. It offers intriguing lore that often leads to dead ends. It contains several questionable hitboxes. The twin gargoyle fight is an atrocity.

It is also an incredibly unique videogame that has completely captured my attention. Progression stems not only from numerical stat increases, but the skill of the player as they learn to survive in the Lands Between. The lore and story offer just enough to string the player along and excite the imagination. Difficult bosses present an opportunity for mastery and deliver a palpable sense of accomplishment upon their defeat. The art direction, atmosphere, and score are all peak. Exploration is fun and rewarding. The twin gargoyle fight is still bad, though.
